Well, it's been a long time since my last post. A lack of discretionary funds means that I haven't been able to do much on the project for a while now. Also, I'm limited to working in the summer months due to the cold, and I spent one month this summer away in Antigua doing a field school in Archaeology (which is where the money went).

Gasoline is over a dollar per litre now.

On Saturday evening I dragged the engine carriage, engine, and transaxle out from under the car, and into the driveway!!!

Ummm... now what do I do with it?

Actually, I'm going to borrow an engine hoist, disconnect it from the carriage, and store it until I can find a buyer. Hopefully I can find a buyer.

Today, Montana and I lowered the car back down from the ridiculous height I had to get it to in order to pull the engine out.

It's good to make progress again.

There's not much more to do before it's time to start putting it back together. I'd like to remove any rust on the frame and repaint it. After that's it's time to go shopping.

Fire worked! Yay!

Of course someone came by and saw what I was doing and suggested that I should have just cut the bolts with a reciprocating saw... and he was right. It never occurred to me :(

After much work, I've got the back end high enough to pull the engine out. Light was failing by that point, and I was super tired, so I called it a day.

It's good to be back on it.

It's been awhile since my last post. I've gotten bogged down with troublesome frozen bolts in my attemps to drop the engine carriage. First the strut bolts would not budge, and after finally removing them, now I can not get the front carriage bolts out.

Or should I say couldn't. I was trying to salvage the rubber bushings, but it appears that they are what are binding the bolts. Also a friend recommended that I should replace them anyway. So, they next step will be a torch! Weeeeee fire!

Oh yeah, I drained the gas tank and got about 5 litres out of it. Value: CAN$4.50. Total project cost CAN$536.56. Anyone want to buy a remote starter? ;)
Well, it's been a busy couple of car nights.

Last night put the car on stands again, removed the coolant pipes, got the exhaust manifold loose, and did some floor pan rust removal.

Tonight I removed the exhaust system, the fuel tank, the instrument panel, and found some free money in the form of a CommandStart remote car starter...
...I always knew that the car had had one installed, but I assumed from the mess of wires under the dash that it had been pulled.

I was in a meeting today. Meetings are always a good chance to doodle:

Well, I think I have all the panels off that I'm going to take off. I was working on the doors but realised I didn't really need to remove them for any good reason.

I also rolled it out and pressure washed it again, taking off some rust, some loose paint, and lots of grease.

It's time to take the engine out. Sigh.

I'm thinking of going transmissionless. I'm considering putting in a differential from some sports car, and mounting it driveshaft input up, with a 10" motor mounted vertically. Ideas, ideas.

Last night I drained the oil and the automatic transmission fluid. I also removed the console support assembly, and the dash.

I took out the very crazed instrument glass and could finally read the gas gauge. Yep half a tank, if it's reading true. The law that says you'll have lots of gas left in your EV conversion car holds true.

I also bought a shopvac and cleaned up my glass mess.

Fun times.
